Five in Double Figures in Griffins Victory

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 15 Westminster men's basketball team picked up an 81-69 non-conference win over Saint Katherine College (Calif.) on Wednesday night in the Behnken Field House.
 
Westminster (3-6) struggled to find any rhythm in the first half as they went 11-of-35 (31.4 percent) from the floor. They also struggled from beyond the arc, making, just three of their 13 attempts. The Griffins took advantage of 15 Saint Katherine (1-7) turnovers and turned them into 19 points to lead 34-27 at intermission.
 
Saint Katherine opened the second half by scoring the first eight points to take their first lead of the night at 35-34. The Griffins responded with a 16-2 burst that gave them their largest lead of the night at 50-37. They would maintain the lead the rest of the night by shooting 54.5 percent in the second half.
 
The Griffins finished the game at 40.4 percent from the floor and they made 27-of-35 at the foul line. They scored 22 points in the paint and added 16 points from 14 offensive rebounds. They limited the Firebirds to 41.1 percent shooting and scored 32 points from 22 turnovers.
 
Kenny Woodard led five Griffins in double figures with 19 points after making 11 of his 12 attempts at the foul line. Quincy Bair scored 15 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Nick Jenson had 13 points with Jordan Pryor and Colton Moon scoring 12 and 10 respectively.
 
Jebari Robinson and Lesean Galbreath led Saint Katherine with 17 points apiece. Jimmy Roethler added 10 in defeat.
 
Westminster will now have some time off before returning to the Behnken Field House on Dec. 19 for the first of two straight games against Concordia-Alberta.
