SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a five-set loss to Montana Tech in a Frontier Conference match in the Behnken Field House on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Westminster falls to 10-17 overall this season and they will finish at least in a tie for sixth in the conference standings at 4-10. Montana Tech moves to 11-15 overall and 6-8 in the conference with the victory.
Playing in her final home match as Griffin, senior
Alexis Aalona recorded 22 kills and 24 digs for her 12th straight double-doubles and second 20-20 match of the season. She will head to next week's conference tournament just nine digs shy of becoming the first player in school history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
Westminster had a 65-57 edge in kills during the match and they finished the afternoon hitting .141. They also posted 98 digs and nine blocks while holding Tech to .191 hitting. The Orediggers had six service aces and 12 blocks.
Jessica Chellsen recorded 13 kills for the Griffins with
Alyse Horton adding 11.
Megan Gallegos posted 27 digs while
Taylor Gustafson had 44 assists and 12 digs.
Korey Krumm led Tech with 17 kills with Jordan Danz posting 14 kills and 16 digs. Kimmy Kavran had 42 digs.
Westminster will face Carroll (Mont.) during the quarterfinal round of the Frontier Conference Tournament next weekend in Butte, Mont. Match times for the first round will be announced by the conference next week.
