LEWISTON, Idaho – The Westminster women's volleyball team took the first set from Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) before falling in four sets in a Frontier Conference match on Thursday night at the Lewiston Activity Center.
Westminster won the opening set 25-18 and then dropped the next three by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-18. The loss drops the Griffins to 8-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The Griffins would finish the match with 48 kills, but they hit just .170 while Lewis-Clark State (9-7, 4-2) finished at .216 with 53 kills.. Each team recorded seven service aces and the Warriors had eight blocks and 70 digs to six and 73 from Westminster.
Alexis Aalona continued her march to 1,000 career kills with a team high 12 for the Griffins. The senior hit .225 on the night and added 11 digs for her third straight double-double.
Jessica Chellsen added 11 kills while
Amara Culpepper chipped in nine.
Megan Gallegos had 22 digs and
Taylor Gustafson posted 35 assists and 14 digs.
Chelsea Strong led three Warriors in double figures with 13 kills and she hit .524 with five blocks. Desiree Nelson added 11 kills and JaLisa Jose had 10.
Westminster will continue the road trip on Saturday when they play at Montana Tech at 2 p.m. MT to complete the first half of the conference season.
