GREAT FALLS, Mont. – One day after being upset by Rocky Mountain (Mont.), the 19th-ranked Westminster women's soccer team was shocked again on Sunday with a 2-1 loss at Great Falls (Mont.) in overtime of their Frontier Conference game at the Siebel Soccer Park.
Westminster (10-3-2, 1-2 Frontier) jumped in front early as
Rylei North struck for her 10th goal of the season in just the fifth minute of play. The junior scored her team-leading goal after collecting a pass from
Emily Bergland.
The Griffins would hold that 1-0 lead until the 77th minute when Great Falls (6-5-2, 1-3) would find the equalizer n a strike by Kandace Leliefeld. The Argonauts would create two other chances in the closing minutes of regulation with one shot off the crossbar and another cleared by a Westminster defender.
It wouldn't take UGF long to find the winner in overtime. Taking their eight corner kick of the game, Katie Bennett played the ball into the area where Madison Quinn put it away for the Argonauts first-ever win over the Griffins in 16 attempts.
Westminster finished the contest with an 18-10 advantage in shot attempts and they were able to get 11 of those attempts on goal. North led the team with six of those shots and four shots on frame.
Abi Yanke took the loss in goal for the Griffins as she finished the game with one save.
The Griffins will look to snap this two-game losing skid when they travel to Helena, Mont. to face Carroll (Mont.) on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. MT.
