Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The fourth-ranked Westminster College women's basketball team returned to the Behnken Field House for the first time since Nov. 8 and they defeated Montana Tech, 61-43, in Frontier Conference play on Saturday evening.
Westminster (9-2, 3-0 Frontier) took control of the game early as they put together a 17-2 in the first half that turned an 11-8 advantage into an 18-point spread with 4:47 on the clock. They would end up the half shooting 52.2 percent from the field and led 33-15 at intermission.
The Griffins finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field while making seven of their 20 attempts from beyond the arc. They scored 26 points in the paint and turned 15 Montana Tech (4-5, 0-3) turnovers into 17 points. The Griffins had 17 assists on 23 made field goals while also committing five turnovers.
Alli Blake led the Griffin attack with 18 points on an 8-of-9 shooting night. The senior also notched a team-best five assists with one rebound, one blocked shot and one steal.
Tia Pappas added 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Alli Winters went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish with nine points while
Shelby Ellsworth had seven points and six boards.
Montana Tech was paced by 14 points from Mandy Machinal. Callee Remsen added nine points off the bench for the visitors.
Westminster will be back in action on Fri. when they visit Great Falls (Mont.) for a 5:30 p.m. MST tip at the McLaughlin Center.
