Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's basketball team remained unbeaten in Frontier Conference action with an 83-49 win against Montana Tech on Saturday night in the Behnken Field House.
Westminster (8-6, 3-0 Frontier) came out of the blocks quickly in its first home game since Nov. 30. The Griffins scored the game first 10 points and made seven of their first nine shots to open up an 18-5 advantage less than six minutes into the game. The lead would reach 30 at the 5:51 mark of the half and Westminster would take a 49-25 lead into intermission behind 64.5 percent shooting.
The second half opened with the Griffins going on a 15-4 run in the first five minutes to eliminate any thoughts of a second half collapse. Westminster outscored the visitors 34-24 after intermission by shooting 56 percent from the floor and holding Montana Tech (7-7, 0-3) to just 31 percent after the break.
For the game, Westminster shot a season-high 60.7 percent from the floor with 46 points in the paint and 15 fast break points. The made a season-best eight 3-pointers and finished 50 percent from beyond the arc, another season-high. The Griffins held tech to 30.4 percent from the floor and 1-of-10 from three while scoring 23 points from 17 Oredigger turnovers.
Jordan Pryor led all scorers with 15 points in his 21 minutes off the bench. The sophomore shot 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from distance while also grabbing four rebounds and one assist.
Colton Moon,
Blake Skidmore and
Nick Jenson all scored 10 points apiece with Moon chipping in a career-high seven assists.
Montana Tech was led by nine points from Brandon Rydberg and eight points apiece by Travis Peevey and Adam Greger.
Westminster is back in action on Fri. at Great Falls (Mont.) with the first of two straight road games. The action from the McLaughlin Center will begin at 7:30 p.m. MST.
