Women’s Soccer Remains Home for Two Games

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team continues a four-game home stretch with a pair of games at Dumke Field this week. They begin the week on Thursday when William Jessup (Calif.) is in town. The Griffins then face No. 21 Cal State San Marcos on Sunday.

Both games will be streamed live on Griffins TV and be carried on Comcast 6 in northern Utah. Live stats will also be available for both of this weekend's games. Links for the live features can be found in the calendar section of WestminsterGriffins.com.

GRIFFIN NOTEBOOK
Westminster carries a 5-5 record into the two home games and they are 1-0 in Frontier Conference play. They are coming off two wins at home last week to even their overall record. The Griffins are 5-1 at home during the season and they have won four straight at Dumke Field.

At an average of 1.8 goals per game, Westminster ranks second in the Unaffiliated Conferences while their 18 total goals leads the eight teams. They are notching 1.0 assists per game while taking 14.4 shots per outing. The Griffins average 7.6 shots on goal per game.

Westminster allows just 0.90 goals per game after allowing only nine goals during the season. The opposition takes 6.1 shots per game and they put 54.1 percent of them on goal. Griffin goalies average 2.4 saves per contest and they have notched four shutouts to rank sixth in the NAIA.

AGAINST THE OPPOSITION
Thursday will mark the first meeting between the Griffins and William Jessup.

Cal State San Marcos holds a 2-1 advantage in three all-time meetings with the Griffins. The Cougars took a 3-0 decision at Dumke Field last season in the only other meeting at Dumke Field.

LOOKING BACK
Westminster snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over College of Idaho last Friday. Tiana Cerciello scored the game-winner in the 27th minute and was one of four different Griffins to score in the win. Abi Yanke recorded her first career shutout in the win.

The Griffins followed that with a 4-0 win against Great Falls (Mont.) in the Frontier opener. Nicole Carter scored in the ninth minute for the game-winner as again four different players scored. Yanke ran her scoreless minute streak to 191 minutes with a second straight shutout.

GET THEM FIRST & EARLY
All 10 games this season have been won by the team that scores first. Westminster is 5-0 when they score first and 0-5 when the opponent scores first. The Griffins are also 4-0 when leading at halftime and 5-0 when leading or tied at the 75-minute mark.

LEADS FROM TUCKER
Senior Lexi Tucker leads the team with 10 points and she is tied for fifth in the league at 1.0 points per game. Tucker has a team-high four assists and is one of three players on the team with three goals on the season. She has a team-best two game-winning goals which ranks 30th in the nation. Tucker has taken 29 shots with 16 of those on goal and she leads the team in both categories.

THREE FOR HARRIS
Senior Jessica Harris is one of the trhee on the squad with three goals. She opened the year with a double in the season-opener against Jamestown and then snapped a 190-minute scoring drought by the Griffins when she scored at St. Francis (Ill.). Harris entered the season with four career goals and only one since the start of the 2011 campaign. She has matched her career high of three goals set during her freshman campaign on 2010.

CARTER GETTING HOT
Nicole Carter scored in each of the two games last week to give her three goals for the season. She tallied the winner against Great Falls while scoring in the second half versus College of Idaho to earn Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. Carter is tied for second on the team with seven points while taking 19 shots and putting 11 of them on goal.

MINER ANCHORS THE BACK
Junior Miranda Miner is the anchor of the Griffin back line. After leading the team with 1,640 minutes played in 2012, Miner has played a team-high 865 minutes this season. She has yet to miss a game during her three seasons as a Griffin, appearing in all 48 games the team has played with 44 starts.

GOALIES SPLITTING TIME
Jamie Wilkinson has made seven starts in goal this season and recorded a 3-4 record. The junior has made 17 saves with a .708 save percentage. She has a 1.00 goals-against-average with two shutouts.

Abi Yanke has started the past three games going 2-1 with two shutouts. She has been named the Frontier's Defensive Player of the Week the past two weeks and has a 0.67 goals-against-average and seven saves this season. Yanke has gone 191 minutes without allowing a goal heading into the week.
