Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – The 22nd-ranked Westminster College men's basketball team rallied from an eight-point second half deficit to defeat Rocky Mountain (Mont.) 72-64 on Saturday night in the Fortin Center.
Westminster is now 18-4 overall this season after this fifth straight victory. They are 5-3 in Frontier Conference play and are currently third in the conference standings. Rocky Mountain drops to 13-10 overall and 4-5 in league with the loss.
The Griffins would trail 28-23 at halftime after shooting 23.1 percent from the floor in the first half. Rocky would push the lead to eight a little over two minutes into the second half before Westminster put together a 16-6 run to take the lead. After Rocky would tie the game at 45-45 with 11:57 remaining, the Griffins scored the game's next 14 points and never looked back.
Westminster shot 67.9 percent from the field in the second half and finished the game at 41.8 percent. They recorded 12 assists and only committed 10 turnovers. The Griffins held the home squad to 40 percent shooting and forced them into 18 turnovers and turned them into 18 points.
Jake Orchard led four players in double figures from Westminster with 17 points. The senior went 6-of-15 from the field and had two triples and seven rebounds.
Alex Drecksel recorded his first career double-double as he went for 10 points and 10 rebounds. He grabbed six boards on the offensive end and also had two blocks and two steals.
Jordan Bjornberg had 12 points off the bench with
Tallon Robertson adding 10 points.
Jeremy Nicolas led Rocky with 20 points on an 8-of-12 shooting night. Malachi Alexander added 13 points and Lincoln Powers finished with 11 off the bench.
Westminster and Rocky will meet again on Thursday in the Behnken Field House at 7:30 p.m.
