Griffins' Season Ends in Second Round

Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. - Propelled by a 42-point effort in the second half, Oklahoma City cruised to a 76-47 victory against Westminster (Utah) in second round action at the 2012 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship presented by Kentuckytourism.com.

With the win, the Stars improve to 51-12 all-time in tournament play and advance into the quarterfinals where they will play defending national champion Azusa Pacific (Calif.) at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday.

After a sluggish start that saw the two teams score a combined 14 points over the first nine minutes, Oklahoma City seized control with a 12-2 run, capped by a jumper from Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year Dietra Caldwell. A pair of Cydeny Tibbits free throws cut the Star's lead back to seven, 21-14, two minutes later, however Oklahoma City bounced back with a 13-7 stretch that made it a 34-21 score at the break.

The Stars maintained their first half momentum in the second half, holding a 20-plus advantage for the final 15 minutes, en route to the 29-point victory.

Oklahoma City's aggressive defense frustrated the Griffins the entire contest, as the Stars scored 27 points off turnover and held Westminster to only 30.4 percent (14-of-46) shooting.

Tiffany Goldwire paced the Oklahoma City offense with 17 points, while Taylor Booze added 16 points, including a pair of 3-point baskets. As a team, Oklahoma City shot 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the field, including a 7-for-16 (43.8 percent) effort from beyond the arc.

Nicole Yazzie was the lone Griffin in double-digits with 10 points.

Westminster ends the season with a 23-9 overall record, while the Stars improve to 32-1.
