Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's basketball completed the regular season with a 72-57 win over Great Falls to earn a home game in the opening round of next week's Frontier Conference Tournament.
Westminster claimed a 10th straight 20-win season as they finish the regular season at 20-10 overall and 8-6 in the Frontier Conference. They finished third in the conference standings to earn that quarterfinal home game. Great Falls drops to 19-10 overall and 7-7 in league with the loss.
The Griffins only trailed twice in the game, once at 2-0 and again at 4-3. A 12-3 run early in the first half opened up an eight point margin and they would eventually push the lead to 29-19 at halftime. Westminster opened the second half with an 11-3 push that gave them a 40-22 lead with 16:53 remaining. UGF wouldn't get closer than 12 the rest of the way as Westminster cruised to the win.
Westminster shot 50% from the floor for the game and shot 52.4% after halftime. They came up with 16 assists on the 22 made field goals with 12 turnovers. The Griffins made 7-of-14 from beyond the arc and were 21-of-26 from the foul line, including 19-of-20 in the final 20 minutes. They forced 16 UGF turnovers and scored 21 points from them.
AJ Reilly made a huge impact for the Griffins on his Senior Night. Reilly finished the game with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting with four rebounds and four assists. Fellow senior
Ben Walker scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds.
The surprise of the night was the performance of senior
Josh Schouman. He entered the night having appeared in just five games in his career and having only scored three points. On Saturday, Schouman played 14 minutes off the bench and scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting with two threes.
Melvin Williams led the Argonauts with 19 points with two assists and two steals. David Ubadigbo added 14 points off the bench. UGF scored 19 points from 12 offensive rebounds.
