Box Score DILLON, Mont. – The 10th-ranked Westminster College men's basketball team dropped a 69-64 decision against Montana Western in Frontier Conference action on Saturday night at Straugh Gymnasium.
The Griffins lose for the third straight time overall and are now 12-6 on the season. They also fall to 0-2 in conference action for the first time since the 2006-07 season. UMW improves to 14-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Westminster had a tough night shooting the ball as the finished at 40% overall and just 29.4% from beyond the arc. They were outrebonded 37-36 while turning 11 offensive rebounds into 10 second chance points. The Griffins had 11 assists on 26 made field goals and scored 36 points in the paint.
Jake Orchard led the Griffins with 21 points on a 9-of-20 shooting night.
Ben Walker added 10 points and six rebounds while shooting 4-for-6.
Jordan Hayter led the way with three assists and
Tanner Gregory grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Tyler Hurley led Western with 25 points and seven rebounds. Conference scoring leader Brandon Brown was held to 15 points. UMW shot 50% from the floor and 53.3% from beyond the arc.
The Griffins will now return home for the Frontier Conference home opener on Thursday when they host Carroll College in the Behnken Field House at 7:30 p.m.
