Griffins Pull Away in Second Half to Drop Tech, 74-55

Box Score BUTTE, Mont. – The Westminster College women's basketball team used a big second half to turn a four-point halftime lead into a 19-point win over Montana Tech on Friday evening.

The Frontier Conference opener for both teams went into intermission with Westminster (8-6, 1-0 Frontier) holding a 35-31 advantage after shooting just 38.2% from the floor.  Montana Tech (5-8, 0-1) shot 52.2% in the opening stanza before making just 25% in the second half.

Westminster finished the night at 43.1% from the floor while also collecting 14 of their 37 total rebounds on the offensive end.  They Griffins just committed seven turnovers while forcing Tech into 14 miscues and grabbing five steals.  They shot 43.8% from beyond the arc with seven makes.

Cydney Tibbitts recorded her second double-double of the season while making her first start.  The junior forward finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while also blocking two shots.  Dana Bates led the way for Westminster with 19 points, including 8-of-11 at the foul line.  Shelby Ellsworth and Nicole Yazzie added 12 points apiece.

Bryn Hasquet led Tech with 14 points and made two of her five attempts from beyond the arc.  Danielle Devenny and Tabitha Tomlinson had 10 points apiece.

Westminster will conclude the current road trip on Saturday when they face Montana Western in Dillon.  Tipoff on Saturday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
