Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's basketball suffered an 84-76 loss to Rocky Mountain College in Saturday night in Frontier Conference action at the Behnken Field House.
Westminster slips to 13-7 overall this season and are 1-3 in Frontier Conference action. Rocky improves to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The game featured eight ties and 17 lead changes over the 40 minutes. The entire game was played within an 18 point span with Westminster biggest lead reaching eight and Rocky opening up a 10 point lead on one occasion. At the half the score was level at 31-31 and with 5:06 to play the game was still even at 58-58.
With Rocky trailing 60-59 at the 4:43 mark, Darryl Alexander came up with threes on consecutive possessions to open up a 65-60 RMC advantage with 3:52 remaining. Westminster would get within two points with 3:30 to play on a
Ben Walker tip-in but that would be as close as they would get the remainder of the night. RMC went 10-for-13 at the foul line down the stretch to claim their first win in Salt Lake City in 15 attempts.
The Griffins shot 46.2% from the floor in the game and scored 34 points in the paint. They moved the ball around and came away with 18 assists on 30 made field goals. Westminster finished with 10 threes in the game which is the second most they have made in a game this season.
Jake Orchard carried the scoring load for the Griffins, finishing the game with 25 points. He went 9-of-17 from the floor with five threes. The junior also came away with two rebounds, two assists and five steals on the night. Walker added 12 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Nile Finney led five Battlin' Bears in double figures with 16 points off the bench. Doundrekyc Parham added 14 points, six assists and four steals. Rocky got a big lift from a bench that scored 34 points.
Westminster will now finish the first half of league play with a three-game road swing. That begins on Thursday in Lewiston, Idaho against Lewis-Clark State College.
