Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The 24th-ranked Westminster College women's basketball team continued its winning ways with a 60-52 won over Carroll College in Frontier Conference on Thursday night in the Behnken Field House.
Westminster improves to 10-6 overall this season and 3-0 in the Frontier Conference behind the team's fifth straight win. They also improve to 6-2 at home this season. Carroll falls to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in league.
The Griffins scored the first six points of the game and would never trail in the contest. While they didn't shoot the ball particularly well from the field, Westminster took advantage of their 28 trips to the foul line. The nation's No. 3 rated free throw shooting team shot 92.9% at the line, missing just twice. That allowed them to overcome the 30.4% they shot from the field.
Westminster also grabbed 34 rebounds in the game and turned 12 offensive boards into 17 second chance points. The Griffins forced Carroll into 13 turnovers which resulted in 12 points for the Griffins. The ball movement resulted in 10 assists on 14 made field goals.
Cydney Tibbitts had another solid night for the Griffins. The junior forward led all scorers with 24 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for her third straight double-double. She shot just 5-of-11 from the field, but went 12-of-13 at the foul line and also recording three assists.
Amy Krommenhoek scored a career high 13 points off the bench. She went 4-of-5 from the field and had three makes from beyond the arc.
Nicole Yazzie finished with nine points, three assists and four steals and
Shelby Ellsworth added six points.
Kalee Junkermeier led the Saints with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Carroll got 26 points from the bench and scored 24 points in the paint.
Westminster will look to continue the current winning streak on Saturday when they host Rocky Mountain College. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
