Men’s Golf Places Fourth at Rocky Frontier Event

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Westminster College men's golf team finished fourth at the second Frontier Conference event of the season that was played on Sunday and Monday.  The event was hosted by Rocky Mountain College and played on the par 71 Peter Yegen Golf Club.

Westminster posted a final score of 868 over the three rounds and finished 18 shots behind Carroll College in third at 850.  Lewis-Clark State won the event with a three-round score of 839 and was four shots better than Rocky at 843.

“The team has to continue to focus on the things we can control,” head coach Chris Hendrickson said.  “We need everyone to contribute and get better everyday to help us reach our potential.”

Westminster freshman Dane Jensen finished second overall among the individuals.  Jensen fired a school record 205 over the two-day tournament and finished two shots behind Drew Reinland from Lewis-Clark State.  Tanner Kopon finished tied for 22nd for the Griffins with a score of 220.  Matt Bushman and Brian Panter tied for 27th with matching scores of 222.  Collin Wilkinson shot 227 to finish tied for 37th while Robby McKee tied for 42nd at 230.

“Dane had a great individual performance with three rounds under par for the first time,” Hendrickson said of the Griffin freshman.

The Griffins opened the tournament by shooting 289 during Sunday's first round.  They were 11 shots off the pace set by RMC at 278 and sitting in fourth place.  Jensen shot an opening round 68 and was one shot behind Reinland for the opening round lead.

The second round saw Westminster shoot 289 for the fourth-best round of the day.  LCSC shot 276 during the round and took a one-shot lead with a score of 557 to end the day.  Jensen again posted a 68 for Westminster and was two shots back of Reinland for the lead.  Jeremy Jensen from MSU-Northern posted the low score of the tournament in the second round at 64.

Westminster shot a final round score of 290 to finish at 868.  That is the lowest 54-hole score in school history for a team.  Jensen set the school record for lowest 54-hole score by an individual by shooting a 69 on Tuesday.  He matched the 69 shot by Reinland to finish two strokes off the pace.  Panted posted the low round of the day by shooting a 67 in the final round.

Through the two fall events of the Frontier Conference season, Westminster resides in the fourth position with 1,771 strokes.  Rocky leads the team standings at 1,733 with Carroll in second at 1,736.  Lewis-Clark State is in third with 1,744 strokes.

Jensnen sits atop the individual leaderboard through the first six rounds.  He has posted a score of 420 through the first two events and holds an eight shot lead over Connor Rakowski of RMC and Reinland at LCSC.  Panter is in 21st overall at 453 with Kopan (455) in 22nd and McKee (457) in 23rd.
