SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team snapped a three-match winless streak with a 3-1 win over Bellevue on Friday at Dumke Field. Westminster defeated the visitors from Nebraska for the first time in seven games with today's win.
The Griffins are now 5-5-1 on the year while Bellevue drops to 0-9.
Bellevue got on the board first when Graeme Eaglesham took a cross from Juan Narvaez and put it in the net for a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.
Westminster responded in the final minute of the first half as
Anthony Alcox scored the first goal of his career to level the game at 1-1. Alcox took a pass from
Manuel Duenas and then shot the ball inside the far post for the goal.
Chris Cook would tally the eventual game-winner in the 80th minute when he cleaned up a ball that was sent through the box by
Gabe Gonzalez. Duenas added his first career goal in the 83rd minute.
Dennis Sellis played a ball across to Duenas who then chipped the shot over the keepers head and into the net.
Westminster held a 10-5 advantage in shots attempted and put five of those attempts on frame. The Griffins were also awarded three corner kicks and suffered 11 fouls.
Westminster will play its final home game of the season on Sunday when they host Marymount (Calif.) at Dumke Field. Five Westminster seniors will be honored prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff.
