Evans Scores 1,000th Career Point as Griffins Claim Championship

Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Westminster senior Dani Evans scored 18 points to lead the ninth-ranked Westminster women's basketball team to a 79-75 victory over Great Falls in the regular season finale on Saturday night. The win clinches a third straight Frontier Conference title for the Griffins.

Evans became just the fifth player in Westminster (25-5, 12-2 Frontier) history to surpass the 1,000 point barrier. She has now scored 1,015 points in her career. She also tied the school record by playing in her 129th career game on Saturday. The Griffins are 101-28 in her career and she has recorded more wins than any player in Westminster history.

Westminster shot 58% from the floor in the game to overcome just 5-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc. They outrebounded Great Falls 32-30 and posted 16 assists. On the defensive end, Westminster held UGF (10-19, 3-11) to 35.8% shooting and forced 14 turnovers.

Evans was the top scorer for the Griffins with her 18 points. Dana Bates added 17 points with a team-high seven rebounds. Michelle Pace had 15 and Brooke Larsen scored 13 respectively. Last night's hero Nicole Yazzie finished with eight points and six assists.

All five Argo starters scored in double figures led by 21 points from Sarah Sciascia. Chelsea Adams added 12 points while Kezia Ford and Jamie Young had 11 points apiece.

Westminster will now host Great Falls in the opening round of the Frontier Conference Tournament on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
