Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Westminster College women's basketball team ended 2011 with a 61-44 win over The Master's College on Friday afternoon at the Biola Holiday Classic.
Westminster improves its record to 7-6 overall this season after going 2-0 at the Holiday Classic. They move above the .500-mark for the first time Nov. 12 when they were 3-2. The Master's drops to 7-7 overall with the loss.
The Griffins didn't shoot the ball extremely well as they finished the game at 37.3% from the floor. They used a defense that held TMC to a season-low 44 points, 18 below their season average, and held them to 29.2% shooting. Westminster forced 14 turnovers and had a 36-27 advantage on the glass.
Allie Eastman paced three Griffins in double figures with 12 points that all came from four made threes. She also notched six rebounds to tie for the team lead with
Cydney Tibbitts. Tibbitts added 11 points and two assists to her night as she made just her second appearance of the year.
Jenteal Jackson contributed 10 points and five assists.
Whitney Best led TMC with 15 points with three makes from beyond the arc. Lena Rivera had eight points while Morgan Schwegler grabbed seven rebounds.
Westminster will now get set for conference play as they travel to Butte, Mont. for the Frontier Conference opener at Montana Tech Jan. 6.
