Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. – The Westminster College women's basketball team picked up an 81-54 win over Hope International at the Biola Holiday Classic on Thursday evening. Westminster (6-6) was playing for the first time in 12 days and their first time outside the state of Utah in over a month.
The Griffins led for all but four minutes in the game and held a 42-23 lead at halftime. They shot 53.3% from the floor in the opening half. They finished the game at 50% from the field while recording 18 assists on 29 field goals. Westminster connected on 9-of-24 attempts from beyond the arc and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and 15 second chance points.
With her 3-pointer at the 13:14 mark of the first half, junior
Nicole Yazzie became the sixth player in school history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Yazzie entered the night with 999 career points and finished the game with 14.
Cydney Tibbitts made her Westminster debut by leading the team with 15 points off the bench. She shot 6-of-10 from the field and added 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Dana Bates scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds while
Jenteal Jackson had nine points and five assists.
Lauren Salazar, Samera Dorton and Brittany Bauman each finished with 12 points to lead Hope International (3-10). The team forced the Griffins into 21 turnovers and had 19 points from those turnovers.
Westminster will conclude the non-conference slate on Friday when they face The Master's College in the conclusion of the Holiday Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Biola University.
