COMPLETE POLL
SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's Volleyball team entered the first edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll at No. 20 when it was released by the NAIA on Tuesday. Westminster received 242 points to enter the poll after not being ranked in the preseason poll that was released on August 16.
This is the first time that Westminster has been ranked since the 2008 preseason poll that was released on August 18 of that season. The Griffins join four schools that are ranked inside the Top 25 for the first time this season. Westminster is 4-4 on the season and has played five teams ranked in the poll including No. 1 Fresno Pacific and No. 2 Concordia (Calif.). The Griffins have gone 2-4 in those meetings this season.
Lewis-Clark State College is the only other Frontier Conference team in the Top 25 at No. 11. The defending conference champions jumped up four spots from the preseason poll after posting an 8-1 record to begin the season. Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College each received votes in the poll, but sit just outside the Top 25.
Fresno Pacific is ranked No. 1 in the poll for the 36th consecutive week. The Sunbirds are thre three-time defending NAIA National Champions and are 8-0 to start the 2010 season. The rest of the Top 5 consists of Concordia, Cal Baptist, Lee (Tenn.) and Northwestern (Iowa).
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. The next poll will be announced on Sept. 14.
Westminster will return to action on Thursday, September 9 when they face Rocky Mountain in the Frontier Conference opener for both teams. The match will begin at 7 p.m. in Billings, Montana.
