SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team got off to a slow start, but managed to find themselves in time for a 3-0 sweep of Montana Western in the Frontier Conference home opener. The win was the 100th career victory for head coach Kim Norman. In her seventh season, Norman has compiled a 100-94 (.515) record.
The Griffins (5-6, 1-2 Frontier) started set one in a hole and had to rally from down 13-20 and the 18-22 to take the first set 25-22. Westminster hit just .238 in the set, but was struggling to find the floor early. The second set was controlled by Westminster from the start as the cruised to a 25-10 victory. Westminster hit .320 in the set with 10 kills and only two errors. The third set featured five ties early before Westminster pulled away for the 25-17 win. They hit .500 in the third set with 19 kills.
Westminster finished the night with 44 kills and only nine errors. The .347 hitting efficiency is a season high and the best they have hit since 2008. The Griffins also added five service aces and had a sideout percentage of 66.7%. On the defensive end, Westminster totaled 39 digs and 12 blocks. They limited Western (1-11, 0-3) to a .094 hitting efficiency, including -.160 in the second set.
Clotile Harris sparked the Griffins with her 17 kills and .424 hitting efficiency. Harris also contributed two blocks and six digs.
Kenzie Mitchell finished with seven kills while hitting .400 from her right side position. Mitchell also posted three blocks.
Katie Vance was solid in the middle with six kills and five blocks.

Kyndall Kordakis each racked up seven digs.
Bailey Branson led Montana Western with nine kills to go with six digs. Kayla Schmid had seven kills and hit .235 for the Bulldogs who lost to the Griffins for the 11th consecutive time. Shelby Mack recorded 16 digs at her libero position.
Westminster will return to action on Saturday, September 18 when they welcome Montana Tech to town. First serve from the Behnken Field House is scheduled for 2 p.m.
