Westminster Drops Two Matches at Tournament of Champions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team dropped both of its matches at the Tournament of Champions presented by Courtyard Marriott Downtown on Saturday. They opened with a 3-2 loss against No. 9 Azusa Pacific in the final match of pool play. They then fell 3-1 to 16th-ranked College of Idaho in the semi-finals of the tournament. Westminster finished the opening weekend with a 2-2 record.

The Griffins were the only team to take a set from Azusa Pacific during the tournament. They finished they match with 68 kills and hit .249 against the eventual tournament champions. Westminster posted 10 blocks and 75 digs as a team.

Clotile Harris led a trio of Griffins in double figures in kills with 21 kills. Ericka Evans recorded 14 kills while Stephanie Jones added a career high 13 kills. Jones hit .448 in the match with zero hitting errors and five blocks. Kyndall Kordakis piled up 22 digs from her libero position.

In the semi-final match with College of Idaho, Westminster took the opening set 25-21, only to see the visitors win the next three 25-15, 25-21, 25-20. Westminster hit just .154 in the match with 50 kills. On the defensive side, Westminster posted 62 digs and six blocks.

Harris again led the team with 21 kills and hit .293. She also contributed six digs, two service aces and two blocks. Evans added seven kills and eight digs while Emily Atkinson had 43 assists and 11 digs. Harris and Atkinson were each named to the All-Tournament Team.

Westminster will return to action on September 3 when they battle top-ranked Fresno Pacific at the Asics/Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament hosted by Concordia (Calif.). The Griffins will also face No. 2 Concordia on September 3 and then No. 6 Biola and Westmont on September 4.
