Griffins Welcome Carroll in Semi-Final Action

The Westminster women's basketball plays host to Carroll College in the semi-finals of the 2010 Frontier Conference Tournament on Saturday, March 6. Westminster and Carroll will tip at 7 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.

The Griffins are the top seed in the tournament and made the semi-finals with a 75-54 win over Great Falls in the opening round. Carroll defeated Montana State-Northern 58-57 on the road to advance to Saturday's game.

Westminster enters Saturday's game at 25-5 overall and finished 13-1 during the Frontier Conference regular season. The Griffins jumped to No. 9 in the final NAIA coaches' top 25 poll that was released on March 2. That is the highest ranking in school history. The Griffins have won eight straight games and 21 of the last 22.

Westminster defeated Great Falls 75-54 in the opening round of the Frontier Conference Tournament last Tuesday night. Dani Evans and McKenzie Jessop finished with 22 points apiece with Evans matching her career high with 11 rebounds. Jessop added four rebounds and five steals while Nicole Yazzie recorded eight assists.

The 22 points by Evans and Jessop were the most scored by an individual during the opening round of the tournament. Yazzie leads the tournament with eight assists. As a team, the 75 points scored by the Griffins was tops for a team in the opening round as was the 44.8% they shot from the field.

Against Carroll
Westminster went 2-0 against Carroll this season including an 80-51 win in Salt Lake City on January 21. The Griffins are 10-15 all-time against the Saints, but they have won four straight in the series. The last meeting was a 71-68 Griffin win in Helena on February 20.

Around the Tournament
The other game tonight features third-seeded Montana Tech visiting second-seeded Lewis-Clark State. That game tips at 8 p.m. in Lewiston, Idaho. The winner of that game will face the winner of this game on Tuesday, March 8 at the home of the highest remaining seed.
