Frontier Conference Playoffs Begin Against Eighth-Seeded Great Falls

The Westminster women's basketball begins the 2010 Frontier Conference Tournament on Tuesday, March 2 after they clinched the regular season championship last Saturday. The Griffins open the postseason as the top seed in the tournament and welcome eighth-seeded Great Falls to the Behnken Field House. Tipoff of the opening round game is slated for 6 p.m.

Westminster enters the week at 24-5 overall and finished the 13-1 during the Frontier Conference regular season. The Griffins are ranked No. 11 in the NAIA coaches' top 25 poll, with the final poll of the season being released on Tuesday. The Griffins have won seven straight games overall and 10 straight at home.

They currently lead the nation in field goal percentage at 49.3%. The Griffins also shoot 41% from beyond the arc which is also tops in the country. The team averages 78.3 points per contest and is sparked by an average of 9.5 makes from three-point territory. On the defensive end, Westminster allows just 63.9 points and forces 19.1 turnovers per game.

Nicole Yazzie leads the team in scoring at 13.6 points per night and has averaged 25.3 per game over the last three contests. Her 4.4 assists per game leads the team and the Frontier Conference. McKenzie Jessop also average 13.6 points per game while leading all Griffins with 207 rebounds. She also is tops in the Frontier Conference with an average of 3.14 steals, the fifth highest total in the NAIA.

Against Great Falls
Westminster went 2-0 against Great Falls this season including an 84-54 win in Salt Lake City on January 9. The Griffins are 16-4 all-time against the Argonauts and have won 10 consecutive meetings. The last meeting was a 75-46 Griffin win in Great Falls on February 15.

Around the Tournament
The other opening round games feature Lewis-Clark State hosting Montana Western in the two-seven match-up. Third-seeded Montana Tech is home against the sixth seed Rocky Mountain while No. 4 seed MSU-Northern is home to play No. 5 seed Carroll. All of those games are on Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m.
