Women’s Basketball Struggles against Westmont

Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Playing a game that counts for the first time in 25 days, the 11th-ranked Westminster women's basketball team looked a little rusty. The Griffins struggled on the boards and suffered a 93-78 loss to No. 21 Westmont during day one of the GSAC Challenge. Westminster falls to 12-3 on the season while Westmont improves to 9-2.

Westminster shot 48.2% from the field and was 9-of-20 (45%) from beyond the arc. Westmont controlled the glass and finished with a 40-33 advantage. The Warriors grabbed 19 boards on the offensive end and scored 16 points from those boards. The Griffins also turned it over 20 times which resulted in 29 Westmont points.

Jenteal Jackson led the Griffins with a career high 21 points, scoring 17 of those in the first half. Allie Eastman added 14 points with four rebounds and two assists. Dani Evans and Nicole Yazzie scored 11 points apiece. Angela Fales led the team with five rebounds while scoring eight points.

Lisa Peterson led Westmont with 21 points and Angel Blanco added 18 points. Vanessa Farias had 18 points off the bench. The Warriors shot 50% from the field and had 19 assists.

Westminster will conclude the non-conference season on Thursday when they face Cal Baptist at 1 p.m. at Westmont College.
