SALT LAKE CITY – The 10th-ranked Westminster women's basketball team picked up a 78-56 win over College of Idaho on Friday night at the Westminster Fall Classic. Westminster (5-1) shot 51.9% from the field and 56% in the second half to earn a fourth straight victory.
The Griffins played excellent defense on the Yotes (1-2) and forced 23 turnovers which resulted in 19 Westminster points. Westminster also dominated the glass with a 40-29 advantage in that category. They turned 13 offensive rebounds into 12 second chance points while also scoring 40 points in the paint.
Nicole Yazzie got the Griffins going with tow threes in the first four possessions. She finished the night with 21 points and four makes from beyond the arc. Yazzie also ran the offense with
Jenteal Jackson and turned the College of Idaho pressure defense into easy baskets for Westminster. Yazzie and Jackson each recorded four assists.
Michelle Pace got it going once the Griffins settled into half court offense. Pace scored 19 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
Angela Fales added nine points and a career-high six assists, mostly on post feeds to Pace in the half court offense.
Nicole Gall led the College of Idaho with 18 points on 6 of 16 shooting. She also turned it over 10 times with two assists and three rebounds. Dayna Granger added 15 points. College of Idaho shot 32.1% from the floor and had eight fast break points.
Westminster will wrap-up the Fall Classic when they host Pacific Union on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
