HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Westminster women's soccer team completed its three-game trip to Hawaii with a 4-1 victory over Chaminade on Sunday evening. Westminster scored all four goals in the second half, and got them from four different players. The win is the first of the season for the Griffins, making them 1-4 overall.
Whitney Williams gave Chaminade a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. The score remained the same until the 69th minute when
Brinna Bennion struck for the Griffins for the first time this season.
Tanisia Wilson tallied her first career goal in the 72nd minute to give Westminster a 2-1 advantage.
Megan Maldonado and
Rachel Watson added some insurance when they each recorded goals in the 83rd and 87th minutes respectively.
The Griffins controlled much of the game and finished with a 47-2 advantage in total shots. Five players recorded at least five shots, led by
Nicole Taylor's 10 attempts. The 47 shots are a school record, surpassing the 24 set in 2007. The Griffins attempted 26 shots in the second half alone on Sunday.
Dayna Winter-Nolte and
Lindsay Bekken each played half of the game and neither had to make a save.
Westminster is back in action on Sunday, September 6, when they host Kansas Wesleyan on Dumke Field. Kickoff of that game is 10:00 a.m.
