Griffins Complete Idaho Trip at 2-0

Ben Walker had 15 points and six rebounds on Saturday night.
Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho - A 7-0 run midway through the second half gave Westminster College the lead for good, as the Griffins defeated The College of Idaho, 77-69, in the final game of the 23rd Annual Duane Wolfe Memorial Golden Rule Shoot-Out in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Griffins (3-3), ranked No. 9 in the NAIA Division I national poll, will share the tourney title with fellow Frontier Conference squad Lewis-Clark State, who defeated Northwest University, 83-70, in tonight's opener.

A see-saw second half saw the Coyotes (1-2), ranked No. 8 in the NAIA Division II, build their biggest lead of the night at 57-52 on a Steve Peres trey with 11:05 remaining. However, a Weston Anderson trey sandwiched by free throws by Ben Walker and Tanner Gregory gave the Salt Lake City bunch the lead for good.

The Yotes pulled within 67-65 inside the final four minutes and got back-to-back defensive stops, but the hosts had some bad luck as Kelvin Potts was called for a charge and Noah Gottlieb had a baseline runner spin out of the cylinder. Westminster responded, as Blair Prowse converted a three-point play and Walker canned a 15-foot jumper, to seal the win.

Prowse led the Griffins with 17 points and six rebounds, with Walker adding 15 points and six boards. Matt Ballenger had a monster night for the Yotes, scoring 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including five three-pointers. Craig McGee added 18 points and 13 rebounds in the loss, as Westminster held a 26-14 edge in free throws made and committed just nine turnovers.

The five-player all tournament team was led by a pair of L-C State players - McIntosh and Daniel Williams, along with the Coyotes Ballenger, Westminster's Prowse, and Northwest's Waltman.

Westminster and the College of Idaho will meet again on Friday, November 26 at the Westminster Thanksgiving Tournament.  That game will tip at 7:30 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
