Westminster Continues Home Dominance

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's basketball team stayed perfect at home this season behind a 75-55 win against Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday night. No. 4 Westminster took control early in the first half, holding L-C State without a field goal for over eight minutes and taking a 44-17 lead into halftime. Westminster (20-2, 6-1 Frontier) shot 64.6% from the field and have now won 20 games in a season in seven straight seasons.

Geoff Payne led the Griffins with 18 points and nine rebounds. Payne shot 8-of-10 from the field and also had four assists and three steals. Wes Anderson chipped in 14 points off the bench, helping Westminster to a 30-18 bench point advantage.

“I'm really proud of our defensive effort,” head coach Tommy Connor said. “We got a little rattled in the second half, but that was because they put us in a scramble situation.”

Westminster held L-C State to just 35.3% shooting and forced 11 turnovers. Westminster scored 22 points out of the turnovers and had 13 fast break points. The Griffins also posted a 46-20 advantage in the paint while grabbing 32 rebounds.

Lewis-Clark State (8-9, 2-3) had three players in double-figures, led by 14 apiece from Curtis Allen and Daniel Williams. Allen also had four assists and two steals while Drew Arnold added 12 points.

Westminster is back in action on Thursday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. when they host Great Falls in the Behnken Field House.
