Westminster Beats Metro State for Connor's 200th Career Win

Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – The Westminster men's basketball team picked up a 71-65 win over Metro State on Saturday night. The win is the 200th career win for head coach Tommy Connor, and the Westminster men's basketball program. This is the 10th season for Connor at the helm of the Griffins and they have gone 200-95 (.678) during that time.

Westminster (14-1) never trailed in the game, building a 13 point cushion midway through the second half. Geoff Payne finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. Westminster shot 55.1 percent for the game and held a 39-29 rebounding advantage.

Westminster had a 21-13 advantage in bench scoring, with all 21 coming from Conner Nielsen and Wes Anderson. Anderson also handed out a team high five assists. Danny Stosich had 10 points and six rebounds before fouling out late in the second half.

Donte Nichols led Metro State (8-3) with 16 points and Jesse Wagstaff had 15. They forced Westminster into 20 turnovers and turned them into 16 points.

Westminster now gets ready to open Frontier Conference play when they travel to Havre, Montana to face Montana State-Northern. That game is slated for Friday, January 9 at 8:00 p.m.
