Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Playing for the third time in five days, the Westminster men's basketball team used a 48-35 second half to come away with an 83-72 victory against the Colorado School of Mines on Friday night. Westminster (13-1) used an 18-9 run midway through the second half to put the game out of reach, sparked by seven points from
Conner Nielsen.
Geoff Payne had a dunk and a layup in the final three minutes to stop any comeback thoughts of Colorado Mines (5-5).
Westminster shot 59.4 percent from the floor on the game, led by a 10-of-14 performance from Payne. He finished with 23 points and four rebounds in 27 minutes. The Griffins were 18-of-20 in the second half, 90 percent, including 7-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Jordan Jacobs finished the game 6-of-6 from distance and had 18 points.
Danny Stosich was the third Griffin in double figures with 10 points and his six rebounds matched Wes Anderson for the team high. Anderson led all players with seven assists, a career high. Westminster had a total of 16 assists and nine steals while committing 14 turnovers.
Colorado Mines was led by 17 point from Dale Minschwaner and Kyle Pape. The two combined to shoot just 11-of-30 as the team shot just 43.1 percent for the game. Jacob Case and Gordon Galloway scored 10 apiece. Minschwaner led all players with 10 rebounds.
Westminster will play a fourth time this week on Saturday, January 3 when they face Metro State, another NCAA DII foe. That game will begin at 5:00 p.m. in Golden, Colorado.
