Westminster Uses Second Half Run to Secure Tenth Straight Win

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – It took a 12-3 run in the second half for the Westminster men's basketball team to finally put away Western State on Friday night. No. 7 Westminster outscored Western State 32-23 in that second half en route to a 67-54 victory. The win improves the Griffins to 10-0 on the year while Western State falls to 3-2.

Geoff Payne led Westminster with 21 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 8-of-12 on the night. He controlled the paint all night and helped the Griffins to a 38-24 advantage in the area. Westminster also had a 34-31 advantage on the boards and scored 13 second chance points.

Jeramie Hopson scored 13 points for Westminster while recoding four steals and three assists. Wes Anderson chipped in nine points off the bench, leading the Griffins to a 21-13 advantage in bench scoring. Westminster shot 47.9 percent from the field and went 4-of-11 from beyond the arc.

Jeremy Brooks led Western State with 13 points, three assists, and three steals. The Mountaineers struggled shooting as they connected on just 35.2 percent of their 54 attempts. They were also just 4-of-20 from distance and committed 18 turnovers which resulted in 20 Westminster points.

Westminster will put that perfect 10-0 record on the line against Fort Lewis on Saturday night. The Griffins and Skyhawks will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. in Durango, Colorado.
