Bench Helps Griffins to Easy Victory

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – For the third time this season Westminster picked up a win over Northern New Mexico. Tonight it was a 99-58 decision to conclude the Westminster Fall Classic and improve Westminster to 8-0 on the season. They also move to 4-0 at home while Northern New Mexico falls to 2-6 this year.

Westminster held just a 47-34 advantage at halftime, but a 24-8 run to open the second half put the game out of reach. Shannon Evans scored four points and had five assists during that stretch, taking control of the game. The Griffins shot 59.4 percent from the floor in the second 20 minutes and no starter played over the final nine minutes.

Evans finished the game with 12 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Her backcourt running mate Elisa Leader had 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Lexi Philipps scored a career high 12 points coming off the bench. Westminster held a 50-23 advantage in bench points in the game.

Westminster dominated the paint area with a 54-24 advantage in paint points. They also grabbed 48 rebounds to just 31 for Northern New Mexico. Candace Smith, Michelle Pace, McKenzie Jessop and Evans all snagged six rebounds each with three by Jessop coming on the offensive end.

Lacee Mape led Northern New Mexico with 13 points, but was just 3-of-13 shooting. All three of her makes were from 3-point range. Brittany Dickson had 11 points and Jessica Thorpe added 10. Ashley Davis had four rebounds and four assists for the Eagles.

Westminster will continue a four-game home-stand when they face Biola on Friday, November 21 in the Behnken Field House. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
