Box Score SALT LAKE CITY - The Westminster Griffins picked up a fourth consecutive win in thrilling fashion on Thursday night in the Behnken Field House. Westminster defeated Great Falls in five sets to improve to 7-14 on the season and 6-4 in the Frontier Conference. The two teams combined for 113 kills and 166 digs in the contest.
After winning the first two sets, Westminster struggled to maintain an offensive rhythm and dropped sets three and four. The Griffins then came out strong behind five kills from Ali Culp to take the fifth and deciding set. Culp finished the night with 22 kills, a season high for any Griffin, and had 21 digs. She becomes the first player in Westminster history to post a 20-20 night.
In total four Griffins posted double-figures in digs. Along with the 21 from Culp,
Whitney Adams went for 20.
Ericka Evans recorded 13 digs and
Brittani Barton tallied 10. Offensively Westminster had three players reach double-figures in kills. Culp had the 22, but Evans posted 12 and Barton racked up 11. This is also the first time in school history that three players recorded a double-double in the same match.
The Griffins return to the Behnken Field House on Saturday, October 25 when they face MSU-Northern. It will be the final home match for Barton. The Swing for Life Foundation is sponsoring the event and a silent auction will take place prior to the match. All proceeds from the event will benefit breast cancer research. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. and the match begins at 2:00 p.m.
