Marquessa Gilson

Marquessa Gilson starts her career as an assistant coach at Westminster in the 2025-26 season. A Utah native, Gilson returns to her home state bringing a diverse coaching background and a deep passion for player development and mentorship.

Gilson arrived at Westminster after assistant coaching roles at Adams State University and Lower Columbia College, where she played a pivotal role in the team’s 2022 NWAC Championship. As head coach at Pierce College (WA), she led the program to consecutive NWAC Tournament appearances, showcasing her ability to build and sustain competitive success.

Her coaching career is rooted in purpose-driven leadership, focusing on relationships, accountability, and growth. Gilson emphasizes basketball IQ and skill development, helping student-athletes thrive both on the court and in life beyond the game.

A former collegiate athlete, Gilson began her playing career as a two-year starter at BYU-Hawaii before transferring to Colorado Mesa University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Education with a minor in Coaching from Weber State University and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University.
