Ryan Wirth embarks on his inaugural year with the Men’s Soccer team, bringing his expertise as the goalkeeper coach for the 2023 season.
Hailing from Bern, Switzerland, Ryan's roots trace back to the picturesque ranching community of Bayfield, Colorado, where he spent most of his formative years. His journey in soccer led him to the position of goalkeeper at Fort Lewis College from 2007 to 2011, a period marked by remarkable achievements. During his time on the field, he secured an impressive tally of 2 NCAA Division II National Championships. Ryan's outstanding performance earned him accolades, including First Team All-American recognition and the esteemed title of RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year. His impact resonated further as he set a school record for a single-season goals-against average of an impressive .44.
Following his collegiate career, Ryan briefly pursued a professional playing career in Switzerland before making a pivotal transition from playing boots to coaching whistle. His passion for the game led him to the role of coaching men’s and women’s goalkeepers at Fort Lewis, where he made his mark during the 2019 and 2021 seasons. Notably, he extended his influence to become the head strength and conditioning coach for all sports in 2021.
Ryan's journey took a new turn as he assumed the role of Director of Goalkeeping for the Timber and Thorns Academies based in Bend, OR. This venture served as a testament to his commitment to nurturing talent and furthering the growth of the sport.
Now, based in Salt Lake, Ryan joins the Griffins coaching staff, ready to impart his wealth of knowledge and experience to the Men’s Soccer team. His arrival heralds a new era of specialized training and mentorship for the team's goalkeepers.
