Trevor Van Tassel

Trevor Van Tassel embarks on his inaugural year at Westminster, following a successful two-year stint at South Plains College, a junior college situated in Levelland, TX. His role as an assistant coach saw the Texans achieve a commendable 43-21 record. During the 2021-22 season, SPC secured a notable victory over conference rival Odessa College in the Region V title match, progressing to the Sweet 16 of the NJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament.

Van Tassel played a pivotal part at SPC in guiding 12 players to transition to the DI level, each of them graduating with their AA Degree. Notably, his tenure was marked by the coaching of eight All-Conference players, three All-Region players, Defensive Player of the Year Kalifa Sakho, and Newcomer of the Year and All-American Deuce Turner.

Prior to joining SPC, Van Tassel dedicated three seasons as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a Division II institution located in Durant, Oklahoma. His influence contributed to the Savage Storm's consecutive appearances in the NCAA Central Region Tournament, amassing an impressive 54-27 record. Notably, they clinched berths in the GAC Conference Tournament throughout his tenure, securing the number two seed on two occasions.

Van Tassel's coaching expertise led to the recognition of ten All-Great American Conference selections, with standout player Kevin Buckingham earning the prestigious honor of 2019 All-American and Conference Player of the Year. His journey in coaching began at his alma mater, Colorado Mesa University, where he served as an assistant coach from 2016-18 after concluding his playing career from 2011-2016. In 2016, he attained his undergraduate degree in history from Colorado Mesa and subsequently achieved his master's degree in Sports Administration from Southeastern in 2020.

Off the court, Van Tassel's personal life saw him join in matrimony with his wife Lucille in 2023. Together, they call Salt Lake City their home.

Coach Van Tassel brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role at Westminster, and his journey continues as he contributes to the growth and success of the team.
