Benjamin Kaufman begins his first season 2018-19 as an assistant men's basketball coach at Westminster College. His duties include recruiting, scouting, travel, player development, statistical analysis and administration with the day-to-day operations of the program.
Kaufman comes to Westminster after working as an assistant coach for three seasons at Regis University. As lead assistant Kaufman was instrumental in a tremendous revitalization of the program. During his tenure Regis qualified for the NCAA DII National tournament for the first time in twenty years and won the RMAC Conference tournament for the first time in school history. In three years as lead recruiter and in charge of post player development Regis University Men’s Basketball players earned 2 Freshman of the year awards, 1 Defensive player of the year award and 8 players were named to the RMAC All-Conference team.
Before his time at Regis, Kaufman served as an assistant coach for three seasons at Western Oregon University. During that time the program captured its first ever GNAC regular season title and made their first ever NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance. During his time at Western Oregon University players earned 1 Conference Player of the Year award, 1 Conference Newcomer of the Year award, 1 Freshman of the Year award and 8 players were named to the GNAC All-Conference team.
Prior to joining Western Oregon, Kaufman served as an assistant coach and video coordinator at Oakton Community College located in Des Plaines, (Ill.) for two seasons. While at Oakton, Kaufman assisted in all aspects of the program, including game plans, scouting reports, recruiting and practices. His main focus was as the team's defensive coordinator.
Before arriving at Oakton, Kaufman served as varsity assistant coach at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, (Ill.) for three seasons. During his tenure the Stevenson basketball team went a combined 57-27, winning a regional title during the 2009-10 season.
His additional coaching experience includes working with Full Package Athletics, Inc., where Kaufman served as Head Coach for Under-16 AAU team and Under-17 AAU team as well as an advanced skill trainer.
In 2017 Kaufman earned his MBA in strategic management from Regis University. Prior to that he attended the University of Iowa where he earned his bachelor’s degree with Honors in both Finance and Economics.
Benjamin and his wife Malia were married in the summer of 2018. Malia is currently the Women’s Volleyball Associate Head Coach at the University Of Utah.
