FAQ
Most collegiate sports are a big step from High School participation. Is that the same for collegiate cycling?
- No, it can be quite casual but can still be very competitive. The top athletes competing collegiately in the country, and who end up winning nationals, are among the best cyclists in the country. Even if you are not to that level you can still participate through the various categories for different ability levels and be a part of a group situation you may be familiar with in NICA programs in high school.
I’ve only ever raced mountain bikes, could I still race on the road even though I’ve never done it before?
- Yes, that is the beauty of collegiate cycling. You are provided the opportunities to participate in multiple disciplines throughout the year. You just can’t take your mountain bike in a road race and vice-versa.
Is there any cost involved with participating with Westminster Cycling?
- No. Other than having a mountain and/or road bike and protective riding gear. As a member of the cycling team costs for race entries, travel, food, uniforms and other miscellaneous needs will be provided and organized by the college.
What are the requirements to be involved with the cycling program?
- To be a member of Westminster’s Cycling program you must be an enrolled full-time student at Westminster College, primary health insurance with coverage in the state of Utah, adhere to athletic department policies and requirements and hold an active collegiate USA Cycling license attached to Westminster College.
