The Westminster men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Regis on Wednesday evening at Dumke Field, as the Rangers scored twice in a two-minute span in the first half and added an insurance goal late to seal the result.
Game Breakdown
First Half
Regis controlled the run of play from the start, out-shooting Westminster 7-2 in the opening 45 minutes. The Rangers broke through in the 20th minute when Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar scored off an assist from Matys Price, giving Regis a 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, Michael Ajagbe doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute, putting the Rangers up 2-0. Westminster's best chances of the half came from Ashton Duran and Owen Gallo, who both had shots blocked in the 21st minute, but neither Griffin shot found the target. Nefthaly Loya picked up a yellow card in the ninth minute. Regis carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
Second Half
Westminster pushed for a way back into the match, out-shooting Regis 4-4 in the second half and generating several corner-kick opportunities, but couldn't solve Rangers goalkeeper Zach Jennings, who finished with a clean sheet. George Acurero had two shots go high, while Jack Epstein and Matt Donovan each had attempts blocked. Regis put the game away in the 69th minute when Abram Wilson scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. The second half also saw four yellow cards shown — Christian Kercher and Ethan Ross for Westminster, and Ben Christian Wittenbernds for Regis, along with Luke Denison late in the match. The Rangers held on for the 3-0 shutout win.
