Griffins Put Eight Shots on Target, but Regis Holds Firm in 3-0 Win

DENVER – Westminster (3-2-2, 1-2-2 RMAC) fell 3-0 to Regis (9-2-0, 5-0-0 RMAC) on Friday night at Regis Turf Fields. The Griffins outshot the Rangers 11-7 and put eight shots on target, but Regis goalkeeper Maggie Payne made eight saves for the shutout.

Game Breakdown

First Half
Westminster won the match's first corner kick in the fifth minute, and Natalie Cardin forced the first save of the night from Payne in the 14th. Regis answered with an Emma Attwood shot that sailed high in the 17th minute, and Adrianna Pulver was denied by Payne in the 18th. Carly Bramwell also had a shot saved in the 31st minute.

Regis broke through in the 37th minute when Brooke Castillo scored unassisted, her second goal of the season, and the Rangers led 1-0. Eva Christensen tested Payne again in the 43rd minute, but the shot was saved. Westminster put all four of its first-half shots on target, and Payne stopped each of them. The Griffins went to the break trailing 1-0, having outshot Regis 4-3 and won three corner kicks to the Rangers' two.

Second Half
Regis extended its lead less than three minutes after the restart. Paula Igual scored unassisted in the 48th minute to make it 2-0. Westminster pushed back, with Kirsten Kirkham sending a shot wide right in the 53rd minute. Cardin and Laine Romney then each forced a save from Payne, in the 55th and 56th minutes.

Fernanda Rodriguez made it 3-0 in the 64th minute, scoring off an assist from Brooklyn Bailey. Marin Mackenzie made saves on Bailey in the 66th minute and Paige Davis in the 78th. At the other end, Pulver sent a shot wide left in the 68th minute, and Kirkham did the same in the 75th. Abigail Austin and Pulver each had late shots saved by Payne, in the 86th and 90th minutes. Westminster outshot Regis 7-4 in the second half.

Griffin Performances
Pulver led the Griffins with three shots, two on target, in 47 minutes. Cardin put both of her shots on target in 76 minutes. Kirkham played all 90 minutes and took two shots. Mackenzie played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.
