Grand Junction, CO - The Westminster men's soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 victory over UT-Dallas, scoring in both the opening minute and late in the second half to secure the result. The Griffins struck immediately when a long throw-in from Chase Kluksdal was flicked on by James Miles and finished by Broc Underhill to give Westminster the early lead. The Griffins continued to generate pressure throughout the first half, highlighted by a 41st-minute shot on target from Max Edwards and a strong effort from Zac LeVin in the 43rd minute that forced two difficult saves from the Comets' goalkeeper. Westminster carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Griffins added insurance in the 81st minute when freshman Cole Williams converted a well-executed build-up, assisted by George Acuero and Parker Stebbing, to extend the lead to 2-0. Defensively, Westminster was equally effective, with goalkeeper Tommy Manwaring anchoring the back line and delivering a crucial save on a UT-Dallas free kick to preserve the clean sheet. Behind their early breakthrough, steady attacking presence, and disciplined defending, the Griffins secured a confident 2-0 win to start the campaign.
