The Westminster women's soccer team traveled to Hawai'i this weekend for a pair of matches against Chaminade University and nationally ranked No. 14 University of Hawai'i Hilo.
On Thursday, the Griffins battled Chaminade to a scoreless draw. Both sides had opportunities, with Westminster recording six shots on goal while the Silverswords tallied 12. In net, Marin Mackenzie stood strong, making three saves to preserve the shutout.
Looking for a statement win, the Griffins faced No. 14 Hawai'i Hilo in a physical showdown on Saturday. The Vulcans committed nine more fouls than Westminster (17–8) and drew two yellow cards, but the Griffins held their composure. Despite being outshot 14–12, with seven of the Vulcans' attempts on target, Westminster leaned on another stellar performance from Marin Mackenzie, who recorded seven saves to keep a clean sheet.
With the match still scoreless late, Addie McCallister delivered the decisive moment, scoring the game-winner in the 83rd minute. McCallister finished with three shots, second only to Hawai'i Hilo's Makenna Maloy, who led all players with four.
The victory over a top-15 opponent marks a significant step forward for Westminster, who will look to climb the national rankings as they return home to host Metropolitan State University of Denver on September 26.
