Salt Lake City, UT – Under the lights at Dumke Field, the Westminster Women's Lacrosse team went toe-to-toe with the nationally-ranked No. 15 Regis Rangers on Friday night. Despite a gritty second-half push, the Griffins fell just short, dropping a 13-9 RMAC contest.
Regis jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter before Olivia Petrosky and Ava Deakins sparked Westminster's offense late in the frame. The Rangers, however, continued to apply pressure and extended their lead to 8-3 by halftime.
After trailing by as many as seven, the Griffins clawed their way back with a strong third quarter. Deakins and Grace Szwedko each netted their second goals of the night, while Petrosky added her second to pull the Griffins within four.
Westminster kept the momentum rolling in the fourth with goals from Jordan Williamson, Holly Shoughro, and Celia Fidanza, trimming the deficit to 12-9. But Regis would add a late insurance goal to seal the win.
Griffins goalie Gabriella Cheminant was a bright spot in net for the Griffins, finishing with 11 saves while playing all 60 minutes.
