Griffins Suffer Heartbreak in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO - The Westminster men's soccer team wrapped up its opening weekend RMAC road trip with a narrow 3–2 loss to UCCS on Sunday morning in Colorado. Westminster struck first in the 7th minute when Owen Gallo finished cleanly off an assist from Alejandro Puente, putting the visitors ahead early. UCCS found the equalizer midway through the first half, and the teams entered halftime deadlocked at 1–1.

After the break, Westminster came out on the front foot, creating sustained pressure and retaking the lead in the 62nd minute through Cameron Neeley, who continued his stellar form with his second goal in as many games. The Griffins looked poised to take control, but UCCS rallied late, converting a penalty in the 78th minute before adding the eventual game-winner just two minutes later. Westminster pressed forward in the closing moments, but their late surge fell just short.

Even with the narrow loss, there are plenty of positives for the Griffins to carry forward. Neeley's scoring touch, Gallo's early breakthrough, and the team's composed play in possession underline a squad finding consistency and belief. Westminster now turns its focus to Friday's home match against Fort Lewis, as the Griffins look to capitalize on their improving form and turn their attacking momentum into three points in front of their home crowd.
