GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Westminster volleyball battled in a non-conference contest on Friday night but came up short against Colorado Mesa, falling 3–1 (12–25, 25–22, 24–26, 22–25) inside Brownson Arena.
The Griffins responded after dropping the opening set by rallying for a 25–22 win in the second frame, evening the match at one apiece. Colorado Mesa regained momentum in the third and held off a late Westminster push in the fourth to close out the match.
Westminster finished with 52 kills on the night, highlighted by a team-high 18 from Breegan Huntsman. Mailei Myers added 14 kills, while Josie Gerritsen chipped in 10. Setter Atley Mitchell posted 21 assists along with 10 digs for a double-double, and Leila Cornejo also handed out 21 assists to fuel the attack.
Defensively, Ava Livolsi led the back row with 23 digs and contributed two service aces, while Josie Gerritsen was strong at the net with four blocks. As a team, the Griffins recorded eight blocks and 85 digs.
With the result, Westminster moved to 8-5 overall while staying 2-2 in RMAC play. The Griffins will return to the court tomorrow to face Western Colorado at 2 p.m.
