San Antonio, TX – The Westminster Griffins Women's Soccer team stormed to a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half, but St. Mary's University (TX) mounted a fierce second-half comeback to defeat the Griffins 4-3 on the road.
The Griffins dominated early, starting in the 33rd minute when Necie Gubler opened the scoring, assisted by Xevani Salanoa. Just moments later, Chloe Pickett added to the lead with an unassisted goal, putting Westminster up 2-0. The Griffins capped off a strong first half as Sophia DiGeronimo found the back of the net, securing a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Despite their impressive first-half performance, the second half saw St. Mary's University (TX) take control. Goals by Sydney Varela and Natalie Gonzalez leveled the score at 3-3 by the 65th minute. In the 83rd minute, Alexis Truitt netted the game-winner for St. Mary's, sealing the Griffins' first defeat of the season.
