Salt Lake City, UT – The Westminster Men's Basketball team capped off their second conference game of the weekend with a commanding 81-64 win over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) on Saturday night.
The Griffins took a nine-point lead into halftime, but UCCS came out strong in the second half, cutting the deficit to six points. Westminster quickly responded with a decisive 12-2 run to push the lead to 16 and never looked back. The Griffins' offense clicked throughout the game, shooting an impressive 60% from the field while connecting on five three-pointers and converting 12-of-15 free throws.
Simon Akena led the charge with a game-high 19 points, while Ryan Rubenskas added 15 points and a block. Donaval Avila chipped in 10 points and two steals, providing key contributions on both ends of the floor.
The Griffins' balanced scoring and efficiency allowed them to control the pace and maintain their lead down the stretch, earning their first RMAC victory of the season.
