Salt Lake City, UT - The Westminster Griffins made a triumphant return home on Wednesday, marking the beginning of RMAC (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) action for the 2023 season. Their homecoming clash took place at Dumke Field, where they faced off against UCCS (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs).
The game got off to a challenging start for Westminster as they witnessed a turnover in their own zone that led to the first goal of the match for the Mountain Lions, courtesy of Alex Andersson, taking advantage of a Griffin's error. However, the Griffins swiftly regrouped, with Armin Hasanovic finding the back of the net in the 24th minute, thanks to an assist from Jace Vance. This leveled the score at 1-1 as the teams entered halftime.
The second half proved to be a closely contested battle, with both teams evenly matched. However, a miscommunication on the Griffins' part resulted in an own goal, ultimately becoming the decisive game-winning goal for the Mountain Lions.
With this challenging loss behind them, the Griffins will now hit the road for a Sunday matchup with a conference opponent, Colorado School of Mines. The game is set to kick off at noon and can be watched on the RMAC Network.
