Durango, CO - In a closely contested match, the Westminster Griffins Women's Soccer team faced a tough challenge on the road against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. Despite a valiant effort, they ended up with a 2-1 loss, with the Skyhawks securing the win with two late goals just before the halftime whistle.
As the second half began, the Griffins displayed their determination and fighting spirit. At the 56th minute mark, it was Emma Geiges who delivered a precise pass to her teammate, Xevani Salanoa. With a skilled strike, Salanoa found the back of the net, reducing the deficit and putting the Griffins on the scoreboard.
Throughout the game, the Griffins showcased their offensive prowess by outshooting the Skyhawks, tallying a total of 16 shots compared to the Skyhawks' 12. This strong offensive display included seven shots on goal, which is an impressive feat.
Though the Griffins showed resilience and determination, they couldn't manage to find an equalizer. The Skyhawks' two first-half goals proved to be enough to secure the victory.
With this game behind them, the Griffins will shift their focus to their upcoming contest against Colorado State University Pueblo, scheduled for October 20. The team will aim to regroup and continue their season with their sights set on future successes.
